I'm into robotics, magical walking machines FTW.
Also, I am far from religious. The nomadic thing is kind of weird though, but better than petrieid forest lol.

Whichever provides the most amount of chaos so I can play my mesmer without any thoughts as to keeping one target and who to take down first.

To be honest I don't give a monkeys about all the factions stuff. Just lead me to the pve and the story and don't let the pvp get in my way or affect my game in anyway thanks.

It has been said somewhere that whatever faction you pick will affect the outcome of your PVE game. So pick wisely.

Or perhaps it would be prudent to wait to see where the top guilds go

Isn't the option to NOT choose also valid ? Oh and don't get me started on favour and the WaW concept. Lets just say I have no intention of going to either place under present conditions...
But if I really, really had no choice but to choose a faction (however much I don't see why I should be forced into that choice anyway) I'd go with the Luxons.
Because they will always get my whites sparkly clean and with that great spring-fresh smell.

Everquest - Evil
Anarchy Online - Omni
DAoC - Midgard
WoW - Horde
I guess I will likely go Kurzicks this time. I pretty much always like to play as the bad guys

You mean like the Renaissance, for instance?
I would bet that being on the side with talented crafters would be quite benificial. Though I must admit the lure of the AT-ST Scout Walkers...
I guess I will have to wait until I've met with a few of them before siding.

Definitely be looking for how each side looks ingame 1st(enviroment,characters.etc), before deciding on a side, and if there is any difference in what each side can offer to the player.
From their descriptions, they are equally interesting to join up with.
Thing is if you join one, and you later quit the guild/side, couldnt you try the other side then. (sry if this has been mentioned already)
Like favor, a charac's region might be switchable to an extent? (limit)
/speculates.

Again, I'm not sure Kurzicks are "evil." If they are religous, respect art and crafting, and prefer the status quo, that could actually be considered "good."
A culture based on "survival of the fittest" (think Klingons?), would be a pretty brutal way to live...

In AD&D terms, Luxons sound Chaotic Evil like Drow, an advanced civilization ruled through fear and raw power. Life is cheap and usually short, but there's plenty of room to rise suddenly to greatness.
Kurzicks sound more... Lawful Neutral or Evil. Maybe it was Good once, but it has decended into tyranny and persecution, like when the Vatican was running the inquisition all those centuries ago. I guess if you can bend the rules to your own advantage to rise to power... or maybe there's cool secret societies that teach secret arts... what treasures do the Kurzicks guard..?

It seems as tho many people are going to be joining the Luxons for political reasons (gamers are traditionally liberals...) and some are going to join Kurzicks cos they like killing cute zergling people. It could turn out that the people joining the Kurzicks in order to be in a faction with less people and therefore more pvp orientated players may overcompensate.
Personally, i am a pvp junkie, but the idea of joining a faction that is ultra-conservative and based on religious dogma seems, well, wrong. On the other hand i don’t much fancy joining a faction full off people who choose their faction because they seem like 'the good guys' *shudder*.
The thing i compare this to is EvE-online. The Amarr are similar to the Kurzicks here, and the Minmatar resemble the Luxons. An equal amount of people seemed to join both factions (tho there is a 3rd and 4th side to ally to) as the ships had very different stylings. For example, I joined the Minmatar mainly because I liked the junk ship aesthetics of their ships, but have met people that prefer Amarr ships.
Essentially, ANET have done a almost superhuman job of balancing every aspect of this game. There are few exploits in farming (save 55hp monk) and and no builds that I know of that will not fall easily if fought the right way.
I have full confidence that ANET will find a way of attracting different players, both pve and pvp to each faction. If Kurzick numbers are flagging, perhaps they will introduce Kurzick only GH, or Kurzick specialised armour. I am just flagging some random things up, but I am sure that they have thought how to combat this.
The polarisation of players to either faction is of course assuming that faction will completely separate players from each other. I am sure Kurzicks and Luxons can still fight along side each other, and almost certainly be in the same guild (I think there would be much uproar if people had to split from a guild due to different faction) On the whole I believe that choice over which faction will be made not only on political reasons, but more on aesthetics reasons, and perhaps, to a certain degree, pvp reasons.
I don’t think that polarisation will occur to any kind of extent where one side has mass appeal, and therefore has more peoplem and does better, or that the ‘underdog’ faction attracts more die hard pvpers. This will occur a little, but I pray not noticeable. I consider myself a pvp players, and I know a good proportion of what there is to know about pvp. I plan on joining Luxons at the moment, purely on political reasons (there is nothing else to go on) I may change my mind as I find out how factions will work, whether they can be changed easily, and what joining a faction entails.

wont let me edit. grrrr.
edit:
i also think that people may be misreading the faction descriptions. Kurzicks, lover of the status quo etc, are usually demonised, especially in modern day culture. This does not make them 'bad'. I will condider them 'New Yevon' from FFX-2. not bad, but not exactly good either.
Luxons however have a survival of the fittest policy. They love change etc etc. Its your stereotypical nomad race, who live in a environment so harsh that the population udergoes are certain amount of darwinism. Surely a faction which encourages survival of the fittest are not a grp of carebears, as some put it. They are however the faction with the largest mass appeal, and thats really what this is all about.

That pretty much sums up my viewpoint on this. I don't like the fact that the game seems like it will be more competitive, more PvP-like, and some will be punished with higher prices for equipment. Doesn't sound to fun to me at all.

Fighting for a highly religious (conservativ) society doesnt have to be bad. Since they are inspired by japanise culture I look at them as a shogunate with samurai class as a leading social group.
I actually like the idea and wil play for them.

I'm with Andy.
Only my understanding of the term carebear isn't complete, so I think I'll stick to 'Neutral Asshole' and have plenty of targets (luxons and kurzicks alike).
Bring it on, all of ye. I'm not afraid.
If I feel like I'm missing out maybe I'll join with the Luxons, since they'll have more targets.
